Between June and July 2023, the Faculty of Business (FOB) initiated a program in one of its subjects, BCB2044 Compensation & Benefits, led by Ms. Cheah Yeh Ying. The main objective of this programme was to implement an Industry Handshake Program (IHP), aiming to provide students with opportunities to engage with real-world challenges and issues from diverse industries. By participating in this programme, students had the chance to offer innovative solutions to these real-world problems as part of their coursework.

During the IHP, students had to present their findings and solutions to the respective companies that posed the challenges. The companies then evaluated the students’ reports and presentations, creating a valuable learning experience for the students involved. The program received support and collaboration from eight companies, including notable names like Mamee-Double Decker Sdn Bhd, Sunrise MCL Land Sdn Bhd, VisDynamics Research Sdn Bhd, and Ramly Food Processing Sdn Bhd.

The IHP provided students with invaluable exposure to the workings of different industries, enabling them to gain practical knowledge and experience beyond the confines of the classroom. This direct engagement with real-world scenarios encouraged critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a better understanding of how academic concepts can be applied in practical settings. The involvement of multiple companies enriched the program, offering diverse perspectives and challenges for the students to tackle.

Overall, the IHP was a resounding success, fostering meaningful connections between academia and industry. The programme not only contributed to the professional development of the students but also provided the participating companies with fresh insights and potential solutions to their real-world issues. Such collaborative initiatives play a pivotal role in preparing students for the workforce and fostering stronger ties between educational institutions and industries, ultimately benefiting both parties involved.
